Lost Map Project

I started with my own experience of getting lost near New River Head and focused on those who lost the chance to get lost due to the intrusion of navigation and fixed life trajectories.

Then I learned about their stories about the streets near the New River Head through a conversation with the Thames Water staff.

I use game design and book design with poetry and illustrations to tell  these stories to the public in a narrative context, hoping to arouse the audience’s thinking about the topic of getting lost.

Lost Map Game

I designed a maze game based on the terrain near The New River Head in London.

In this game, players will not have “wrong” routes. They can randomly trigger “surprises” by walking randomly, and these surprises Through the player’s memory processing and retelling eventually becomes the player’s own lost map.

The entrance and exit of the maze are in the same spot, which also expresses the fixed trajectory of our daily life. In this game, players will not have “wrong” routes. They can randomly trigger “surprises” by walking randomly, and these surprises Through the player’s memory processing and retelling eventually becomes the player’s own lost map.

I worked with players to create their own Lost Map.

Books are used as a carrier of communication to tell these lost stories to the public. I use poetry and illustrations to tell the stories of lost Map and Thame Water employees collected in the game to the public in a narrative way. And you may be able to get some inspiration from these lost stories.
